Security and Surveillance SystemsTo date most video security systems consisted of video tape machines continually recording camera images often in a 'slow', low quality mode. The problems of tape wear and poor picture quality often meant unreliable results. More recently the alternative to the tape solution was expensive purpose built digital equipment costing often in excess of Aus $10,000. This equipment improved upon the video tape but lacked a universal standard design, using proprietary, easily outdated hardware. Recent advances in computer technology have allowed video images to be displayed and recorded on the standard PC computer with the addition of software and a state of art video capture and compression card. Only with these developments and internet advances could the low cost and international standard design of the PC be utilised for video security and surveillance products. This development, coupled with low cost colour camera technology and telephony that allows video to be reliably transmitted via telephone lines means a 'step up' solution to video security is now available.

and captioned. Remote viewing and
recording by telephone line connection means
home occupiers and business owners can oversee their
assets without being physically present.

is used for connection, remote viewing is
available across any distance at very low cost.
